Collaborate
Work with us to change attitudes and policies
and to promote professional standards and better compensation
and working conditions. OregonAEYC is represented on
state policy bodies including the Childhood Care and
Education Coordinating Council and the Early Childhood
Initiatives Advisory Committee. We participate in collaborative
efforts to ensure quality care and education for all
young children.
OregonAEYC has been active in such past
policy initiatives as:
- Increasing standards for child care center and certified
family home licensing
- Establishing
standards for family child care
- Adding the early childhood
endorsement to the licensure for public school teachers
- Expansion
of training opportunities and requirements for child
care
- Creation of the Oregon Head Start Pre-kindergarten
program
Oregon Public Policy Issues
Oregon's Legistature meets every two years and is now
in session. This is a great site to learn more about
the legislative process. You can do a search with your
address to find out who your legislators are. Sign up
for legislative updates on topics of interest to you,
track bills, or contact your legislators. Check out
the Oregon Legislative
website through this link.
Federal Policy Issues
Most of the funding for child care in Oregon, other
than the fees paid by parents, comes from the federal
government. For information on public policy issues
at the federal level and to join the Children’s
Champions alert system, please visit NAEYC’s Children’s
Champions website http://www.naeyc.org/childrens_champions/default.asp
